Château Monconseil Gazin
Blaye Côtes de Bordeaux - Red
- Elaboration:
First vineyard in Blaye to be independently audited and certified under the TERRA VITIS regime for sustainable viticulture. No chemicals - organic fertilizers only, treatments based on observation; encouragement of biodiversity and inter-row vegetation. Bud pruning, green harvesting and de-leafing for optimal fruit/leaf canopy balance where appropriate. Harvesting at optimal ripeness.
- Blend: Merlot (60%), Cabernet Sauvignon (30%), Malbec (10%)
- Maturation: 12 months maturation in French oak barrels (25% new), bottled at the estate.
- Terroir:
By Plassac, one of the best sites on the limestone escarpment of Blaye; clay/limestone soils and stony subsoil give excellent drainage and deep rooting systems; South and South-West facing slopes ensure optimal ripening and maturity.
- Best to drink: Drink 2 to 8 years.
- Tasting Notes:
« Inky dark purple core and hue. Pure and intense nose displaying violet, blackberry, cassis, fine spice and sage. The palate is dense and vigorous with conentrated young fruit, ripe tannin a fresh backbone and fine oak derived spiciness, well built with fine purity and persistency.
Nicely done! »
